The American Musicological Society, New England Chapter, announces its meeting of Spring 2025, to take place on April 12 hosted by Smith College. The Program Committee invites proposals of up to 300 words for 20-minute papers. In addition, we would also like to invite proposals for participation in a roundtable discussion that will focus on pedagogy and research during difficult times, connecting emotional, pedagogical, and political experiences to scholarly research and teaching. All abstracts are subject to anonymous review, and submissions from faculty, independent scholars, and students are encouraged and welcome.
Abstracts should be submitted by March 10 to the Program Committee through this Google form. Submitters will be informed of the committee’s decision by the end of March, with the hope of announcing the conference program by April 4..
Please refer to the AMS guidelines for abstracts: “Proposals should represent the presentation as fully as possible. A successful proposal typically articulates the main aspects of the argument or research findings clearly, positions the author’s contribution with respect to previous scholarship, and suggests the paper’s significance for the musicological community, in language that is accessible to scholars with a variety of specializations.” Applicants are requested to submit only one proposal per meeting, and that the proposal not be currently under review for presentation at other conferences. The Bylaws of the AMS stipulate that “presenters must be members of the American Musicological Society,” but our Chapter will consider the possibility of special exceptions to this rule in individual submissions. Those who are not currently dues-paying members of the New England Chapter will be asked to kindly remit the modest Chapter dues ($10) via the AMS national website.
