James Loeb’s Musical World (Germany, June 1-4 2025)

Andrea Olmstead has invited thirteen other scholars and performers in Europe and the US to join her in giving presentations at the James Loeb’s Musical World conference in Murnau and Munich, Germany, June 1–4, 2025. The conference is presented by the James Loeb Gesellschaft in Munich. Olmstead devised all of the paper sessions and topics.

This is the fourth and last conference devoted to the philanthropy of James Loeb (1867–1933), who founded what became The Juilliard School and built Harvard’s Music Building including Paine Hall.

The previous three conferences were devoted to Loeb’s contributions to antiquities, psychiatry, and classics (he founded the Loeb Classical Library, whose Foundation is funding this conference). The papers given at each of these bi-annual conferences were published by Harvard University Press, which will also publish this conference’s presentations.
