Fall 2024 (19 October, Berklee College of Music)
CALL FOR PAPERS:
The American Musicological Society, New England Chapter, announces its first meeting of
the academic year 2024-2025, to take place in Boston on Saturday, 19 October 2024 hosted by Berklee College of Music. At this meeting we hope to explore and celebrate the rich history of music surrounding the city of Boston. As part of the day’s program, we are partnering with the archives of the Boston Symphony Orchestra for an exclusive tour. We have also made arrangements for a modest discount to BSO tickets for the evening of October 19th (further details forthcoming).
The Program Committee invites proposals of up to 300 words for 20-minute papers and for roundtable sessions or workshops (pedagogical, performative, and/or scholarly).
Papers focusing on music in Boston or the great Boston region in any period or genre are especially encouraged.
All abstracts are subject to blind review, and submissions from faculty, independent scholars, and students are all encouraged and welcome.
Abstracts should be submitted by 13 September 2024 to the Program Committee at the following email: ams.newengland [at] gmail [dot] com. Subject: Proposal – Fall Meeting
Proposals will be evaluated with the hope of announcing the conference program on Tuesday, 1 October 2024.
Please refer to the AMS guidelines for abstracts: “Proposals should represent the presentation as fully as possible. A successful proposal typically articulates the main aspects of the argument or research findings clearly, positions the author’s contribution with respect to previous scholarship, and suggests the paper’s significance for the musicological community, in language that is accessible to scholars with a variety of specializations.” Applicants are requested to submit only one proposal per meeting, and that the proposal not be currently under review for presentation at other conferences. In the case of a roundtable or workshop, the same guidelines apply, and we ask that the single proposal be for the entire session, including information for all participants, rather than individual proposals.
Your personal biography may be submitted at the same time, in a separate paragraph ¶ on the same page if you prefer — it will be set aside while the committee deliberates. The Bylaws of the AMS stipulate that “presenters must be members of the American Musicological Society,” but our Chapter will consider the possibility of special exceptions to this rule in individual submissions.
Those who are not currently dues-paying members of the New England Chapter will be asked to kindly remit the modest Chapter dues ($10) at the AMS national website’s storefront.
